Montréal

   SURPRIIIIISE

Now the time has come for revelations: I went to Canada for Holidays, and more precisely to Montreal !
It may not sound so extraordinary to some of you, but it was my farthest trip after Tunisia, two years ago, and yet, I had not the eight-hour flight and six hours of jet-lag.

I spent ten days there with my boyfriend, we had rented a flat on Airbnb and so we celebrated Christmas there ! I was very excited about this idea, because it had been years since I wanted to see snow for Christmas ! What's more, the numerous lights and decorations and songs played everywhere in the city were there to remind us of this special time of the year.

So, snow meaning cold, I have to tell you about what I wore so you know what to except whenever you go there at Winter ;)
I took all my warmest sweaters and my Dr Martens, and I thought I would buy a new pair of shoes there, and a coat, but it turned out that I didn't need it.
Along the journey, temperatures went from -17° to 3°, and my outfits were made of four superpositions of tops (sweater, sweatshirt, simple top and tee-shirt), plus a thin and super warm down jacket when needed and a thin coat ; a double pair of tights and thick socks, and of course, to complete the equipment, a beanie, a scarf and a pair of gloves.
With all that, I kept my body warm all day long and only my face and the tip of my fingers were cold !

I was quite astonished by the prices in the supermarkets, and as good French, we wanted to eat a raclette or a fondue to warm us up (hehe), but the cheese was sooo expensive !

So we forgot the cheese and tried many restaurants and... what a disappointment ! The prices were often too high for the quality/quantity, or the food was just not good.
Luckily we've find a few satisfying places I will share with you in later posts.

So now, I'm sorry if I'm being too picky or.. too French, haha, but food is so important to me, it's an everyday obsession, and I want to eat tasty, healthy products, I'm really scared of being disappointed and especially when I pay for it.
Maybe it's a cultural thing and French people are just used to eating differently than Anglosaxons and so I have to accept that. Anyway, this really makes me want to write about my food habits and thoughts.

As you can see on the previous pictures, the city is a surprising mix of massive buildings of glass and concrete, neo-gothic churches and victorian manors. In the residential areas, you'll find brick houses with outdoor stairs, very typical of North America.
I really liked these architectures, and the farther you go from the center, the more colorful walls and street art you'll find. What's more, the Christmas decorations warmed up the atmosphere.
